Prof. Dr. Manuel Sand hosted the 5th Conference for Outdoor and Adventure from the 7th to the 8th of February at the Adventure Campus in Treuchtlingen. This year’s topic focused on mountain biking and tourism, a widely discussed topic in Germany at the moment. While there are still legal issues in some parts of Germany there is also a lot of reservation against building trail centers in tourism destinations. The conference highlighted the huge potential in a lot of different areas in Germany and discussed touristic aspect of the sport. Dr. Steve Taylor spoke about motives of mountain bikers and key features of mountain bike destinations. He also presented some case studies from Scotland, that where very interesting to the attending German stakeholders. Dr. Taylors visit was made possible by the Erasmus partnership between the West Highland University and the University of applied Management. The two day conference included a conference dinner and active workshop in the morning of the second day. Extreme mountain biker Harald Philipp presented his fantastic film-prsentation Flow in the town hall in Treuchtlingen in the evening. The conference was well attended and helped to raise awareness of the topic and to promote the development of mountain bike trails in Germany.
