Now in its fourth year, the Adventure Tourism Research Association is delighted to be in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University to host the 2015 International Adventure Conference. The three previous events in Scotland and Norway have attracted a truly worldwide audience, with participants from 26 countries attending the last conference in Sogndal, Norway. This last event in particular was highly successful in bringing together leading academics and industry practitioners to learn about and debate burning issues in adventure tourism and outdoor recreation, from marketing and entrepreneurship to philosophical issues.

This fourth conference will take a different angle, replicating more closely the origins of ‘adventure’ in its modern state. Thus, adventure can be considered as a flight from the urban industrial/post-industrial everyday: from the 24/7 connectivity of mobile communications and from the city to the nearby wild lands and theatres of adventure.
